Jon Slayer

Jon grew up on the coast of South Africa where he assisted his marine biologist father in wildlife and field research, developing a deep affinity for the outdoors, both marine and land. As a Royal Marines Commando Officer Jon was deployed around the globe and picked up a taste for travel and exploration. He has now taken up camerawork, blending his enthusiasm for the environment and habit for adventure to become a talented film maker. With broad leadership and logistical planning experience on personal, commercial, and military expeditions around the world, he has proven himself a determined individual with the adaptability to master the varied needs posed by Expedition: Blue Planet.

Jon has adventured and filmed in many countries recording the impact that a rapidly changing world has on communities. There are numerous examples of people facing these new environmental issues; with his films Jon wishes to ensure that these stories are heard, not only to gain support for their efforts but also to spread the knowledge garnered from their experiences for the benefit and motivation of others facing similar situations.

Jon aspires to continue traveling the globe filming people’s stories, publicizing local conservation, research and environmental concerns, explaining their relevance in the global context and thereby showing how, collectively, we can make a difference to the future of our planet.
