- The bay itself is surprisingly shallow, with an average depth of 21 feet. In fact a person who is 6 feet tall could wade through over 700,000 acres of the Bay.
- Chesapeake Bay has over 11,000 miles of shoreline; that is equivalent to travelling from New York to Los Angeles and back again.
- The watershed area of the bay is massive at 64,000 square miles. This encompasses an area of 6 states, one district and more than 16.6 million people.
